History of North Cyprus Yeni Iskele
Iskele known in Greek as Trikomo, and also known as Yeni Iskele, or New Iskele is a town comprised of refugees from a district of the same name in Laranaka city on the Islands south coast. These refugees moved here after the war in 1975. The centre of Yeni Iskele houses the 15th century church of St. Jacob (Avios Iakovos). An interesting fact is that Yeni Iskele is the birth place of the EOKA colonel George Grivas, a proponent of Cyprus becoming joined with Greece (also known as enosis). He died six months before the war in 1974.
